What is SZD?

SZD is a hack of the original Zelda...it is *not* a "sexally zransmittd de-sease"...smarmy bastards. :P Seriously though, Shin Zelda Densetsu is, well, the "New Zelda of Legend." Some have told me that "atarashii zeruda no densetsu" would be closer. No need to change if from a close-enough translation to something more exact; it's not like they did that for us back in the day...haven't we dealt with enough Engrish over the years? :P
This "New Legend of Zelda" is a concept game, from the mind of Aesirraven and designed/laid out by Lord Steak. Okay, "concept game" pushes the mantel some (a bunch), but still...it puts Zelda in place of Link, and vice-versa, and instead of numbering the levels, those go by planet...in ascending size order. Meaning, Pluto goes first, then Mercury, Mars, Venus, etc., out to Jupiter replacing Level 9. Don't worry if you don't know the astrological symbols for the planets; the cave on the second screen tells you what order to look for the symbols.

This hack is notably more difficult than the original...but by no means up there like Zelda Challenge: Outlands.

Why?

Because we can, and because we felt like it. :P

Known bugs?

Dungeon map items...the ones that appear in the upper-left of the screen...those of First Quest Uranus & Jupiter (Levels 7 & 9) do funny things to the screen. Uranus's problem clears up pretty fast...Jupiter...comes down to completely re-loading, and not from a save-state. Neither bug is serious...just minor graphical glitches. You can still see just fine.
There may be others...at this time, not all of the second quest has been beta tested just yet.

Approaching large monsters from behind/unescapable traps? What have you been smoking?

It *will* happen, sooner or later, that you approach a big monster from behind (Aquamentis, Gohma & Patra), or come across a trap layout that you will take a hit or two, or more, from. Just suck it up and keep going; it's not the end of the world, though it does seem aggitating at times. Zelda's a tough girl; she can and will overcome all obsticles.

Bypassing the first quest?

Obviously, I didn't leave "Zelda" as the player name needed to bypass the first quest. It's something else...something in the Zelda series...shouldn't be too difficult for ya' guys to figure out.

Special thanks?

God - for everything...in this, for the patience to keep at this thing
Euclid - those tidbits were great, and the dungeon editor made this job oh-so-much quicker
the guy who made Zelda Tech - that saved me more time than I care to think about.
Challenge Games - for the documentations
anybody else I've forgotten
